All throughout history, women have been belittled. Women were always denied rights solely because of their sex. For example, married women couldn’t own property and had no legal claim to any money they might earn, and no female had the right to vote. Women were expected stay home and take care of the house and children. No one ever expected women to be involved in politics.
During the 1820s and 1830s, various reform groups sprouted across the U.S.These included religious movements and moral-reform societies, anti-slavery organizations. In many of these movements, women have provided key roles.While this was going on, people started to question what it really was to be a women. Were women just obedient housewives that stayed at home or something more?
